Blood Moon: The Total Lunar Eclipse of 2025

total lunar eclipse 2025

Month of September 2025 will witness two Eclipses – Lunar Eclipse on the 7th September and Solar Eclipse on the 21st September. Solar Eclipse will not be visible in India. However, this is mentioned here due to cosmic play. As such precaution for Surya Grahan and Sootak etc. will not be applicable. However, Lunar Eclipse will be visible on 7th September 2025. It will be the total Lunar Eclipse.

The Moon will turn into a blood Moon event in 2025. This red colour is caused by the earth’s atmosphere scattering away shorter blue wavelength of light and refracting the longer, red wavelengths into the Moons surface, as it passes into earth’s shadow. This natural phenomenon will be visible from certain parts of Asia, Africa and Australia.

When and Where the Eclipse will be Seen?

The eclipse this month will last for almost 5 hours and 27 minutes and will have the longest Totality. This eclipse will be visible completely over Asia, Africa, Atlantic ocean, Europe, North America, South East America, North West America, Pacific ocean, India Ocean, and Australia.

Blood Moon is the nickname for a total lunar eclipse, which happens when the Moon completely enters the earth’s shadow, causing the Moon to take on a reddish or copperiest appearance.

Effect of the Eclipse in India

As per “Medini Jyotish” and “Koorma Chakra” with “Parvesh” natural calamity will be the reason for human and disaster in agri field, lot of indiscipline and unorganised situation, heavy disturbance, nuisance, trouble and public harassment are my observations and prediction.

The constellation of Purva Bhadrapada or on footed goat is related to Rudra the God of storms. This denotes suffering, injuries and fall form accidents or attacks.

A Unique Lunar Eclipse

The Moon will pass into Earth’s shadow and turn red. Blood Moon phase will be seen on 7-8 September 2025. This Lunar Eclipse will take place on Poorva Bhadrapada Nakshatra and Kumbha Rashi.

Peculiarity is that this eclipse is talking place with Chandra Rahu presence. This is not at all good from the Astrological point of view.

Sootak Kaal

The sootak of this eclipse will commence from Nine hours before the upchhaya ie, 12:57 hours (IST). During this period, food should not be taken and pooja should not be offered in the temple. Curtain should be closed for all temples and at Puja places.

Eclipse and Sri Satyanarayan Vrat

As the eclipse is taking place during Hindu month of Bhadrapad Poornima. As such worship of lord Satyanarayana should be done in Pradosh kaal after taking proper, bath and suchi. Those who keep fast and worship during pradosh kaal must avoid cooked food and do ‘Parana’ of the vrata on the next day only.

Do’s and Don’ts During the Eclipse

As it is visible in India, the religious people should follow the guidelines as per scriptures reproduced below-

  • It is beneficial to control the mind and perform meditation and japa during the occurrence of the eclipse.
  • It is extremely auspicious to hold a cup filled with brahmi ghee and recite the mantra, ‘Om Namoh Narayanyay’ or Chandra mantra – “Om Sharm Shrim Shrom Sah Chandraye Namah” 8000 times during the eclipse. After the eclipse is over, one should consume the ghee. By doing so, one is said to receive utmost divine blessings and possess extraordinary creative and analytical skills.
  • It is believed that one who consumes food during an eclipse paves his way to hell after death.
  • One should not take food during “Chhaya” of a lunar eclipse. However, pregnant ladies, elderly or sick persons, children can accept food right after one and half hours.
  • Special guidance for pregnant ladies:
  1. She must not see the Lunar eclipse.
  2. She must stay at home (indoor).
  3. She should sit with a coconut and bunch of tulsi leaves.
  4. If necessary she may take medicine or water mixed with sesame seeds and kush.
  5. She should not go for sleep.
  6. She should recite Chandra Mantras as Moon is directly related to water and emotions. Both these factors are crucial for a pregnant lady.
  7. Pregnant women should be extra careful during an eclipse as advised.
  8. Garbha Chandi should be recited regularly. Ram Kavach, Durga Kavach, or Sri Hanuman Kavach may also be worn for patients with critical stage of pregnancy.
  • Putting tulsi leaves on all eatables ensure their purity and goodness. However, cooked food should be given away to a cow or dog and fresh food should be cooked for consumption after the eclipse is over.
  • During eclipse, water mixed with sesame seeds and kush should be consumed only when it is extremely essential. It is better to avoid eating or drinking anything during the eclipse period.
  • Bathing during Grahan Sparsh, performing homa during Grahan, doing poojan, shraddha rituals in Madhya and bathing with full clothes on at the end of Grahan should be followed. Women can bathe without washing their hair.
  • One should take food only after viewing the clear moon once the eclipse is over.
  • After the eclipse is over, one should wash the clothes that he was wearing and then wear fresh clean clothes.
  • A person attains virtues by doing charity like feeding the animals or donating things to the poor people during the eclipse.
  • On the day of eclipse, flowers, leaves and twigs should not be plucked or broken. One should avoid cleaning oneself like washing hair or brushing teeth.
  • During eclipse activities such as unlocking a key, involvement in any physical relationship, eating food, sleeping, urination or defecation are prohibited. Doing any of these activities invites ill-health and poverty as per ‘Dharma Shastra’.
  • During eclipse, no auspicious or new work should be initiated.
  • Eating someone else’s food in eclipse destroys all the virtues that have been attained by that person.
  • One should not dig land during the day of eclipse.
