“Blood Moon” or Total Lunar Eclipse on Tuesday, 3rd March 2026

 Unique Lunar Eclipse will be visible on 3rd March 2026. It will be the total Lunar Eclipse.

The Moon will turn into a “Blood Moon” event on 3rd March 2026. This red colour is caused by the earth’s atmosphere scattering away shorter blue wavelength of light and refracting the longer, red wavelengths into the Moon’s surface, as it passes into earth’s shadow.

Blood Moon is the nickname for a total lunar eclipse, which happens when the Moon completely enters the earth’s shadow, causing the Moon to take on a reddish or copperish appearance.

A Unique Lunar Eclipse

The Moon will pass into Earth’s shadow and turn red. Blood Moon phase will be seen on 3rd March 2026. This Lunar Eclipse will take place on Poorba Phalguni Nakshatra and Singha Rashi.

When and Where the Eclipse will be Seen?

The eclipse this month will last for almost 3 hours and 27 minutes and will have the longest Totality. This eclipse will be visible completely over Asia, Africa, Atlantic Ocean, Europe, North America, South East America, North West America, Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, India Ocean and Australia. However, in India, this will be visible in ‘Grastodit’ (Meaning the Moon will rise after the eclipse had already begun) or eclipsed condition that too in certain parts. However, both Sootak and religious practices will be available in India.

Effect of the Eclipse on the World and Our Country

As per “Medini Jyotish and “Koorma Chakra” with “Parvesh” natural calamity will be the result for human and disaster in Agri field, lot of indiscipline heavy disturbance, nuisance, trouble and public harassment may be observed. This denotes suffering, injuries and fall form of air and car accidents.

The effect of total lunar eclipse in Poorba Phalguni Nakshatra and Singha Rashi:-

a)      Western region (Kashmir) of the country will experience great troubles.

b)     Unwanted disturbance in North East States and also strike of natural calamity.

c)      Massive unrest of upper class people will take place in capital.

d)     Due to harsh decision of court action ruling party of states will be in panic.

e)      Bomb blasts and other negative indications that may happen.

International

Lunar eclipse of March 3, 2026 will have its impact internationally as this will be visible across Asia, Africa Europe and Australia.

a)      America will be in deep trouble due to internal clash in some states. So will be Afghanistan and Pakistan. Currency of dollar may face deeper problems.

b)     North West and South East American states may see internal clashes. All these effects are likely to take place within 7 to 77 days. As per the rule maximum time period of these small or big events are 177 days from the date of Eclipse.

c)      Border conflicts may erupt between countries like Russia / Ukraine, South Korea / North Korea, India / Pakistan and Pakistan / Afghanistan.

d)     However, foreign relations are most likely to develop and India’s position will rise in the world.

Guidance for Followers of Hindu Traditions

Total Eclipse of the Moon

(Samvat 2082 Falgun Poornima, Tuesday)

  1. Chandra Upehhaya Pravesh 14:14 to 19:53 (Total period 5 hours and 39 minutes)
  2. Partial Lunar Eclipse 15:20 to 18:47 (Total period 3 hours and 27 minutes)
  3. Full Lunar Eclipse 16:35 to 17:33 (Total period 58 minutes)
  4. Grahan Middle at 17:04

 

Sootak Kaal on 3rd March 2026

The sootak of this eclipse will commence from Nine hours before the upchhaya ie, 06:20 hours (IST). During this period, food should not be taken and pooja should not be offered in the temple. Curtain should be closed for all temples and at Puja places.

Eclipse and Sri Satyanarayan Vrat

As the eclipse is taking place during Hindu month of Falgun Poornima. As such worship of lord Satyanarayana should be done in Pradosh kaal after taking proper, bath and suchi on 2nd March 2026. Those who keep fast and worship during pradosh kaal must avoid cooked food and do ‘Parana’ of the vrata on the next day only.

Dos and Don’ts During the Eclipse

As it is visible in India, the religious people should follow the guidelines as per scriptures reproduced below-

  • It is beneficial to control the mind and perform meditation and japa during the occurrence of the eclipse.
  • It is extremely auspicious to hold a cup filled with brahmi ghee and recite the mantra, ‘Om Namoh Narayanyay’ or Chandra mantra- “Om Sharm Shrim Shrom Sah Chandraye Namah”- 8000 times during the eclipse. After the eclipse is over, one should consume the ghee. By doing so, one is said to receive utmost divine blessings and possess extraordinary creative and analytical skills.
  • It is believed that one who consumes food during an eclipse paves his way to hell after death.
  • One should not take food during “Chhaya” of a lunar eclipse. However, pregnant ladies, elderly or sick persons, children can accept food right after one and half hours.
  • Putting tulsi leaves on all eatables ensure their purity and goodness. However, cooked food should be given away to a cow or dog and fresh food should be cooked for consumption after the eclipse is over.
  • During eclipse, water mixed with sesame seeds and kush should be consumed only when it is extremely essential. It is better to avoid eating or drinking anything during the eclipse period.
  • Bathing during Grahan Sparsh, performing homa during Grahan, doing poojan, shraddha rituals in Madhya and bathing with full clothes on at the end of Grahan should be followed. Women can bathe without washing their hair.
  • One should take food only after viewing the clear moon once the eclipse is over.
  • After the eclipse is over, one should wash the clothes that he was wearing and then wear fresh clean clothes.
  • A person attains virtues by doing charity like feeding the animals or donating things to the poor people during the eclipse.
  • On the day of eclipse, flowers, leaves and twigs should not be plucked or broken. One should avoid cleaning oneself like washing hair or brushing teeth.
  • During eclipse activities such as unlocking a key, involvement in any physical relationship, eating food, sleeping, urination or defecation are prohibited. Doing any of these activities invites ill-health and poverty as per ‘Dharma Shastra’.
  • During eclipse, no auspicious or new work should be initiated.
  • Eating someone else’s food in eclipse destroys all the virtues that have been attained by that person.
  • One should not dig land during the day of eclipse.

Special Guidance for Pregnant Ladies

  1. She must not see the Lunar eclipse.
  2. She must stay at home (indoor).
  3. She should sit with a coconut and bunch of Tulsi leaves.
  4. If necessary, she may take medicine or water mixed with sesame seeds and kush.
  5. She should not go for sleep.
  6. She should recite Chandra Mantras as Moon is directly related to water and emotions. Both these factors are crucial for a pregnant lady.
  7. Pregnant women should be extra careful during an eclipse as advised.
  8. Garbha chandi should be recited regularly. Ram Kavach, Durga Kavach or Sri Hanuman Kavach. May also be worn for patients with critical stage of pregnancy.

Natal Effects

Birth during the eclipse or on Eclipse day is considered to be highly unfortunate. This is called ‘Arishta’ Yoga at Birth.

Effect of the Eclipse on the 12 Moon-Signs (Rashis)

Mesh Rashi – Lot of stress due to hurdles in work may disturb your sleep.

Vrisha Rashi– Increase in expenses and sudden losses will create problems for natives. Problems of career are likely to put new challenges.

Mithun Rashi– Beneficial, gain is expected. The natives of Mithun Rashi will be blessed with happiness and prosperity.

Karkat Rashi– Abundant precaution is required. Kark natives may face problems related to their spouse and all kinds of relationships. Avoid travelling and going out of house frequently.

Simha Rashi– The eclipse will prove disturbing for the natives. Ill health to spouse and Natives may face sudden accidents. Caution is needed. Friends may turn foes.

Kanya Rashi– Loss in all respects are expected so abundant caution should be taken.

Tula Rashi– Professional advancement and gains are indicated.

Vrischik Rashi– Good gains are expected. Foes may turn out to be helpful friends. Wish fulfillment is possible.

Dhanu Rashi– Heavy loss and ill health is possible. Remain careful as you may be hospitalized.

Makar Rashi– Serious ill health of relatives is possible. Physical pain and mental sufferings are indicated for natives. Loss of clients may also disturb you.

Kumbha Rashi– Abundant precaution is required. Economic loss, sudden expenses, and hurdles at work may demoralize the Kumbha natives.

Meen Rashi- Success in work and financial gains will bring happiness for the Meen natives.

Remedial Measures

Mantra to Protect during Chandra Grahan:

  • Install one ‘Kalasha’ (jar) in the north-east direction full of water mixed with any sort of naturally flowing water and put in two betel nuts, five lotus nuts, one handful of grass roorts, a little curd, sesame seeds (til), flowers, sandal powder, crushed ginger and five coins.
  • The Yajna or ‘Japa’ (Chanting in lower throat) with the Mantras stipulated for the Moon and Rahu or Lord Shiva and lord Vishnu should then be done.
  • “Indro Nalo Yamo Yaksho, Varuno Vayurev Cha
  • Kuber Isho Dhwan in twandu Pagottha Vyatham Mam”.
  • Recitation of ‘Chandra Gayatri Mantra’ will be highly beneficial.

  • Recitation of ‘Mahamrityunjaya Mantra’ will be highly beneficial for eradication of diseases.
  • Recitation of ‘Shree Sukta’ will be powerful for gain of wealth.
